December weddings have a particular kind of magic about them. The light is softer, the air feels still, and every candle flame seems to glow just a little warmer against the cold outside. Renell and Aiden’s wedding at Hazel Gap Barn was a beautiful example of how winter can create the most atmospheric and elegant celebrations.
From the moment guests arrived, the tone of the day was clear. Hazel Gap’s brick walls and timber beams were wrapped in a warm wash of fairy lights, creating a golden canopy overhead. Lanterns lined the aisle, their candlelight reflecting gently across the stone floor, guiding Renell towards Aiden beneath suspended rings of foliage that hovered above the ceremony space like winter wreaths.

A Rich Winter Palette
The colour palette for the day was both refined and inviting. Deep forest green ran through the styling, softened with layers of ivory, soft white and natural foliage tones. The chairs were dressed with flowing green fabric, tied loosely to fall down the backs in soft folds, adding movement and texture to the ceremony setting.
White florals were paired with eucalyptus, fern and seasonal greenery, creating arrangements that felt fresh yet entirely in keeping with the time of year. Nothing felt heavy or overworked. Instead, every detail was considered, balanced and quietly luxurious.

Ceremony by Candlelight
The ceremony took place in front of the fireplace, which became a natural focal point for the room. A lush mantle arrangement of foliage and white blooms framed the hearth, while pillar candles flickered on either side, adding depth and warmth to the brick backdrop.
As Renell and Aiden signed the register at the long wooden table, surrounded by candlelight and greenery, the space felt intimate despite the scale of the barn. It was a moment that perfectly captured the mood of the day: calm, romantic and unhurried.

Elegant Details
Throughout the barn, the styling continued with the same sense of restraint and elegance. Lanterns marked out the aisle. Bud vases and low arrangements were placed thoughtfully, allowing the architecture of the space to shine while still softening every surface.
Renell’s bouquet echoed the wider palette beautifully. A full arrangement of white roses, hydrangea and delicate filler flowers was finished with soft foliage, creating a timeless bridal bouquet that complemented both her dress and the winter setting.

A Warm, Inviting Reception
As the day moved into the reception, the tables were dressed with deep green runners, layered with gold accents, soft candlelight and abundant greenery. Tall arrangements rose gently above the tables, while clusters of candles created pools of warm light across the linens.
The overall effect was rich but not overwhelming. Every table felt inviting, encouraging guests to linger, talk and enjoy the atmosphere that had been so carefully created.

A Perfect December Celebration
Renell and Aiden’s wedding was a wonderful reminder of how beautiful winter weddings can be. With the right palette, thoughtful lighting and natural textures, December becomes the perfect backdrop for a celebration that feels both cosy and refined.
Hazel Gap Barn provided the ideal setting for their day, and it was a pleasure to create a design that reflected not only the season, but also the quiet elegance of the couple themselves.
If you are planning a wedding and would like help creating an atmosphere-led design for your own day, I would love to hear from you.
